A California native, Andy Lockwood knew at a young age he would make his livelihood training horses. Growing up riding horses, Andy then made his way to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences. Andy won a number of training awards at Cal Poly and held various positions within the Animal Sciences Department managing horses, cattle and overseeing the broodmare band.Andy apprenticed for 5 years with AQHA and NRCHA Champion, Ron Emmons, starting colts, training reined cowhorses and reiners. Andy now runs his own training operation and moved to The Rusty Spur Ranch in 2008.
Andy trains and shows Working Cow Horses, Reiners and all-around ranch horses and is known for his skills as a colt-starter. Andy also enjoys coaching non-pro riders and their horses, working with both show competitors and those people wanting to improve their horsemanship skills.
